I must do something I’m not good at; stand firm

Greetings, readers. Events took place the other day here at my apartment building which has caused me to lose a friend. I am not happy to say this, because I really liked this person. Her emotional disability is more than I can handle, and I cannot take the drama and stress. I must walk away.

I’ve known this person for a number of years now and there have been good times and bad. Recently, however, the bad times have outnumbered the good. I don’t know if any of you, my readers, have experienced this before, but it is thoroughly frustrating. Being the son of a psychologist, I tried to pick up as much as I could from Mom. That small advantage I gained was not enough to keep this friend.

Life will go on without my friend (name omitted for privacy reasons) though I feel like I failed. Losing a friend pains me like an open wound. The pain will go away, but it will take time. In the meantime, I shall rejoice in the friends I still have. I need to look forward, not back. If this person ever does come to her senses, and gets and stays on the proper medication, perhaps one day the friendship can resume. Until then, I need to take care of my own emotional health.

On to a different topic, in four weeks Rebecca and I will type our last regular blog entry together. šŸ˜¦ As mentioned, I will put up the occasional blog entry to keep the blog alive and fresh, as I hope Rebecca will do too from time to time. Probably no new entries will take place the last week or two of December, with a new entry the first week of January.

I saw on the internet news page that the last several days a plethora, unfortunately, of shootings occurred. Prayers go out to the families of the victims and a special prayer goes out to those folks who think that violence is the only way to get the attention they seek. Give peace a chance. There are always people available and willing to help you with almost any problem. I am proof of that. I was severely depressed years ago, thought about ending it all, told myself that I was not a coward, and contacted the therapist that I still have today. Violence is not the answer. There are counselors, clergy people, and good old-fashioned best friends you can confide in. If you are thinking about doing something desperate or violent, please think it over for a day or two, and try any of the options I just mentioned.

Well, it must be getting close to winter time, folks. I saw Tussey Mountain Sky Resort all lit up the other night. As we speak, I can see man-made snow on the mountain, though it has been dark the last couple of nights. You would never get me on those slopes on skies. Heck, I can barely walk on the snow on the sidewalk sometimes, much less ski. One day I am planning on taking the local bus to the resort, just to check it out. I might even have lunch there. šŸ˜‰ Any local takers? We could make a party of it.

I am still holding out a slim hope for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but with this loss last week, I think that even a wild-card berth is not obtainable. If we finish at 500 [8-8], I feel we will be damned lucky. I’m still upset at the Cleveland Brown’s defensive player who, in my opinion, tried to kill our quarterback by hitting him over the top of his head with his own helmet. I’m sure that anyone who follows football has seen the clip. The poor kid has already had one concussion, he doesn’t need a second one.

There’s the news for now. Until next Wednesday, have a great week, please love one another, may your favorite sports team win this week, and as always happy reading.

Grand Theft Auto V … the most violent game I have ever seen

Greetings, readers. I watch some people play video games on YouTube. Many people, including my favoriteĀ YouTuber, Jeff Favignano, record these videos at least three timesĀ a week.Ā One of the games they play is Grand Theft Auto V, as police officers chasing bad guys through the streets in cars. I was able to see the way it was played and liked this game. In the version with the police view, it is called LSPDFR (Los Santos police department first response.) It was quite intriguing. I was all set to buy a used copy of the game and try it. Then I found out how many mods you must have, updates, and other variousĀ rigmarole, and I concluded it was too technical for me.

I made the mistake of searching for other videos to see what else this game had to offer. I had heard that this was quite a violent game, but I didn’t know just how bad it was until last night. While I did not want to continue watching these videos, I wanted to see just graphic the game could be. Turns out, I was actually doing research for this blog entry. One unnamed gamer made several videos of his character with various rifles and machine guns, pumping bullets into anyone who moved. I noticed it was mostly woman. That person needs psychological help. Other violent atrocities included throwing a bomb at people, or throwing a molotovĀ cocktail and watching people scream while they burn to death. OMG. Thumbs down to that one.

I was curious to see if there were videos dealing with sex in the game. There was way more content than I was expecting to find and I was horrified to know that children under the age of 18 can watch these YouTube videos. An example from the game is a young man in a fancy sports car picks up a prostitute, drives into a dark alley and then, in a first person view, the player gets to watch and listen to their character perform sexual acts. I believe there are three acts to choose from depending on price. The only good thing about this mod is that there was no complete nudity. Again, thumbs down.

On a gaming podcast, one of the people said that at least a player might not be out in the real world taking out their aggressions. That might be true. Personally, I believe it might have an opposite effect. People playing this game may see how easy it is to stab, maim, or kill and go out in the real world and try it. No, no, no. The more I watch these videos the more I hate this game. Not to be repetitive, but I will say if there was a version of the game that was only the police department, I might be interested in that. Besides that, this game is way too violent for me.

I’ve heard that GTA 6 is due to come out soon, and Lord only knows what that version will include. I think I am going to stick to baseball, football, and WWE wrestling games. They are much less violent. My rant about this horrid game is now over.

Just a quick update on what is going to happen in the next week and a half. There will be a blog post this Friday, and next week one on Wednesday and Thursday. I am taking a personal day on the 13th to perform a show for the folks at the Addison Court. There will be new pictures added in the picture gallery soon after the show is finished.

Until Friday, enjoy the next two days, take care and happy reading.
